The following are items that you need to take care of in order to travel to Ghana.

1- You must have a valid passport

If this is the first time you are getting a passport you must go into one of the 7,000 passport acceptance facilities (post office or other facility) located

throughout the United States with two photographs of yourself, proof of U.S. citizenship, and a valid form of photo identification such as a driver’s license.

Proof of citizenship is a Certified birth certificate issued by the city, county or state with a registrar’s raised, embossed, impressed or multicolored seal, registrar’s signature, and the date the certificate was filed with the registrar’s office.

The passport application fee is $67. The execution fee is $30. The total is $97

It may take 6 to 8 weeks to obtain a passport.  Since we will travel in about 3 months we suggest that you ue the expedited method to obtain your passport.  We also suggest this because you also need to send your passport the Ghana Embassy to obtain a visa (more on that later).  The expedited process to get your passport takes 2 weeks.  The expedite fee is $60.  In addition it is suggested that you use overnight mail to send your passport and receive your passport, so add about $20 to $40 for overnight fees.

With expedited services the total passport cost would be about $197.00.

See the following website for more information

2- Ghana Visa Requirements

Ghana requires a visa to travel to Ghana.

In order to obtain your visa you need to have valid certificate of immunization against yellow fever.  You should be able to obtain an immunization shot from your county health department.

You also need to list two references in Ghana.  If you don’t have any references contact the travel agent or myself (323) 410 2306.

The fee for the visa is $50.00 for a single entry and $80.00 for a multiple entry visa.  If you think you will travel to Ghana again sometime over the next 3 years then you may want to get a multiple entry visa.

If desired you can pay an expedite fee of $30 to get the visa processed in one day.  You must send in proof of valid certificate of immunization against yellow fever along with your passport.

For full visa requirements see the attached document titled “Ghana Visa Requirements”.  The visa application is shown in the linked document “Ghana Visa Application”

The type of visa you should get is a tourist visa.
