Collaborations formed during Science and Technology Classes

With the assistance of our partners, Edison International, the Joan and Chris Robinson-Berry Foundation, the Tracy Family Charitable Fund and a host of volunteers our science and technology activities impacted numerous youth in the greater Los Angeles area over the past year.

With the assistance of our collaborators, the students were able to participate in a number of wonderful and eye opening field trips. Thanks to Tom Mueller, Nikki Austin and John Baskett, the students were able to tour Space X.  They were able to see partially assembled rockets and rocket motors.

Another exciting excursion that the students participated in was the visit to the La Crescenta Water Operations Facility.  At the La Crescenta facility the students were able to learn about the treatment, storage and delivery of water to the residents of La Crescenta.  They also were able to see state of the art computer hardware that monitored the levels and quantities of water available.  Also the students were able to learn about the equipment that conditioned the water and ensured that it was safe to drink.  PATA would like to thank David Gould and his staff for this successful visit.

The students also gained knowledge of engineering, science and technology from our classroom hands on activities and our classroom discussions.  Victor, an electronics and video engineer discussed some of the applications of electrical-mechanical servos and the radio frequency electronics that control the servo mechanisms. Victor also drew circuit circuit diagrams for the students.
